Getaway | Multiple Locations

Getaway is all about making more time for free time. With several locations an easy drive from major cities, Getaway’s tiny cabins are a window into nature—giving you the time and space to rest and disconnect with the whole family - even the furry ones.

We stayed at the Getaway Big Bear location in Running Springs, CA, just 2 hours from Los Angeles. This outpost offers sweeping views of the San Bernardino mountains and endless scenic spots to explore around Big Bear Lake. On-site you'll find an expansive, 1-mile hiking trail that winds through the natural landscape of cedar, oak, and eucalyptus trees, and a quiet pond where herds of deer are known to make an appearance.

You can visit their website to check availability at your desired location. The price per night varies quite a bit based on a weekday or weekend stay, location, and season. The Big Bear location spans $200-$500/night and has a 2-night minimum with a $50 pet fee.

Clydesdale Outpost | Whitefish, MT

Clydesdale Outpost is located in Whitefish Montana and one of the most unique dog-friendly places we've stayed. The property provides an upscale ranch experience and is home to six 800 square foot homes with carports.

Each house features a similar 2-bed, 1-bath floor plan. The first bedroom is on the main floor near the front door. Ours provided great views of the Clydesdale pasture and Rue loved sitting on our bed and watching them outside our window. Off the living room towards the back of the house is the kitchen with all the essentials you need for a weekend getaway. The deck off the back has the most amazing scenic views of the river that you can enjoy with a fire pit and there's even a grill with an outdoor bar and a convertible window that can open to the inside.

Upstairs is the second bedroom that has a more spacious closet and small workspace. Back on the main level is the bathroom with a spacious walk in shower, double sinks, and a door that opens to the deck for the cedar hot tub. it's safe to say we absolutely loved our stay here and would recommend for your next visit to Whitefish Montana.

1 Hotel | Multiple Locations

1 Hotel properties are sustainable havens that provide a luxury stay for you and your dog and do not charge a pet fee. The properties offer a dog program that will stock your room with dog amenities like bowls, beds/crates, and local dog goodies. I’m always blown away at how much space we have in a 1 Hotel room - the thoughtful layout, organization and storage options capture my heart every time.

We’ve stayed at the Brooklyn Heights and San Francisco locations and loved them both. Each on-site restaurant had amazing food and allowed Rue to accompany us inside. The San Francisco property also offers a drop off service within a 2mi radius of the hotel that is dog-friendly too.

The Landing Resort & Spa Lake Tahoe | Lake Tahoe, CA

The Landing Resort & Spa Lake Tahoe is a unique dog-friendly property nestled along South Lake Tahoe’s shoreline and surrounded by alpine trees. Dogs are not just allowed here, they're welcomed. There is no size restriction for your dog when visiting, but you will have to pay a daily $75 pet fee. The property features spacious dog-friendly rooms featuring a kitchenette, heated floors, and other luxury in-room amenities with a balcony. The property itself is located walking distance from downtown South Lake, but if you'd prefer they have a dog-friendly on-demand shuttle that will drop you off and pick you up from the location of your choosing or you can use one of their property bikes. While the property is downtown, there were plenty of areas for potty breaks and dog waste stations on site. The properties restaurant Jimmy's is a must when visiting. They welcome dogs on the patio and inside the restaurant and they even offer a pup menu. We absolutely loved the cocktails and food here and highly recommend snagging one of the indoor tables that opens to the patio where you can watch the sun set. As if this property wasn't dog-friendly enough, your dog is also allowed in the pool area and it's located within 20 minutes of two of our favorite dog-friendly beaches.

Mesa Tavira | Joshua Tree, CA

Mesa Tavira is the perfect desert getaway located minutes from Joshua Tree National Park and perfect for families or a group of friends.

This house features a fully stocked and spacious kitchen equipped with dog bowls, treats, and dog bags. Off the kitchen is the one bathroom with a washer and dryer. Near the entry and the back patio are two sitting areas. Rue loved all the space to play and the back sunroom is perfect for morning coffee with unobstructed desert views.

There are three spacious bedrooms off the back of the house and the master has a door leading directly outside which we appreciated for those early morning potty breaks. The house is very clean and it was easy to feel right at home.

While the inside of the house is a total modern vibe and belongs on the cover of a magazine, the outside is a serene retreat. Just steps outside is a private, partially walled oasis featuring an in-ground container pool with a hot tub, cozy patio seating, and lounge chairs under the pergola. While your dog can’t join you in the pool they can absolutely sunbathe on the deck. And if your dog's recall is so-so, I’d recommend bringing a long lead. You can end the day with a cotton candy sunset and star gazing from the rustic fire pit with plenty of seating. The desert can get a bit windy, but the wall around the fire pit was a lifesaver.

Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge | Stowe, VT

The Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge is gorgeous and just minutes from Main Street in Stowe, VT. We stayed in a spacious, deluxe king room with a private balcony that featured many of the comforts of home. The room featured a breakfast nook with a coffee station, microwave, and mini fridge, which is always appreciated when traveling with Rue's fresh food.

Each dog-friendly room comes with dog bowls, a mat, blanket, dog treats, and a Bluebird Hotels bandana. The lodge welcomes 2 dogs per room with a daily fee of $35 per dog. Rue's favorite part of our room was our private balcony and I totally agree with her.

The property itself is spacious and hosts several buildings with different room types, free parking, a cute firepit for s'mores, and a lodge that's amazingly decorated. The lodge has a coffee and drink bar in the entry, spacious and cozy lounge and reception areas, and a fun game room. The Herwood Inn | Woodstock, NY

The Herwood Inn in Woodstock, NY is a funky boutique featuring four suites on-site with two that are dog-friendly. One dog is allowed per suite and they do not charge a pet fee. We stayed in the Franklin Suite which features a small living space, kitchenette, and half bath for all the comforts of home. The bedroom was very cozy with a master bath attached. Each suite honors iconic female musicians who created positive change and continue to inspire future generations. Our suite paid homage to Aretha Franklin and was thoughtfully designed and curated with items from local businesses in the area. Right outside each suite is a spacious common patio area with plenty of seating, a hot tub, bikes you can use, and plenty of grass right outside the gate. On-site there is also a commune area where they have local goods for sale and select snacks and beverages. Parking is free right in front of the commune and The Herwood Inn is conveniently located within walking distance of downtown to easily explore the shops, cafes, and restaurants on Tinker St. It's also located a short drive to Ashokan Rail Trail that's an easy, beautiful walk, particularly during fall.
