SOUTH CONGRESS

JO’S COFFEE - I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

1300 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704

Jo’s on South Congress has been around since 1999 serving coffee and breakfast items. There’s usually a line for coffee and to take your photo in front of the “I love you so much.” iconic mural that’s right around the corner from the ordering window.

There is street parking and a small lot behind Jo’s, but we recommend you go early. This will beat the line for photos and ensure you have even lighting on the mural.

SMILE! EVEN IF YOU DON’T WANT TO

1511 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704

This mural is painted only steps from the famous Hey, Cupcake food trailer on South Congress and we made the mistake of not grabbing one first for our photos.

You’re the yee to my haw

1701 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704

This floral, quintessential Texas mural is on the side of the flagship Kendra Scott store at South Congress and Milton St. there are several concrete platforms in front of the mural for you to stand or sit on for posing.

If you go early, you should be able to slide into a street parking spot right in front of the mural.

greetings from Austin

1720 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704

One of the most photographed murals, Greetings from Austin is located on the southern exterior wall of Roadhouse Relics. Inspired by a 1940s postcard, the vibrant mural depicts Austin landmarks like the Congress Avenue Bridge, The University of Texas Tower, and Barton Springs. It was lovingly restored in 2013, thanks to donations from the community.

Fine Southern gentlemen

211 Alpine Rd E, Austin, TX 78704

This fun smiley face is painted on the back of Fine Southern Gentlemen in a loading dock area off South Congress on Alpine Rd. E.

There’s stairs you can take to get up close to the mural or dangle your legs over the side and parking all along the loading area. Arrive before business opens and you’ll have the place all to yourself.

LOVE FROM AUSTIN

1912 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704

Located on the side of Prima Dora gift shop, the Love from Austin mural is in an alleyway that offers sizable room for capturing the mural at various angles.

Visit this mural early so you have even light on the mural and in the space in front of it so you have more posing options.

There is street parking nearby or a few spots behind the building.

Geometric pattern

1704 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704

Originally, when we sought this wall out there was a different pattern shown online that had been previously photographed that was white purple and black. This wall is obviously no longer, but we were happy to see they replaced it with another fun pattern.

This mural is across South Congress from You’re the Yee to my Haw and is on the storefront of Feather’s Vintage Boutique.

It’s easiest to find a place to park and just walk between these two murals.

DOWNTOWN

TAU CETI

E 2nd St & Brazos St, Austin, TX 78701

Looming over the corner of Brazos and 2nd St., this commissioned mural is now Austin's tallest public artwork. The impressive spectrum was completed in November 2018 and its title, "Tau Ceti", comes from a star in the constellation Cetus. This mural climbs 103 feet (10 floors) up a parking structure, and the work's position in an inverted corner makes it a multi-dimensional piece that is dizzying when viewed from up close.

ATX WHOLE FOODS STATUE

Whole Foods on Fifth Street and North Lamar Boulevard

The ATX statue at the flagship Whole Foods store isn’t exactly a wall, but an instagram-worthy backdrop that’s worth a visit. This rainbow-striped piece was constructed in 2017 by a local art company, and it’s rapidly becoming an iconic piece of public art in Austin.

The “a” is cropped out of of our photo, but you can see a full picture and learn more about the statue here.

This art piece is really easy to access. You can park in the Whole Foods parking lot and just walk to the corner of the lot where the statue is located. There’s even a ledge that wraps in front of the statue that you can use for posing.

RAINEY STREET

609 Davis St, Austin, TX 78701

Another instagram-worthy spot that’s a little different from a wall mural, but a cool backdrop nonetheless. This Texas-centric decorative wall can be found at the entry of Clive in the Rainey Street area on Davis St.

Park in any of the public parking areas and plan to walk to this location. There is not a lot of street parking and it’s generally a pretty busy area either with patrons or construction.

This photo was taken in the morning before any of the bars and restaurants opened.

MOSAIC BLUE TILE

Sabine St. and 5th

Parking around the area is often tricky, but it’s on enough of a side street that you can stay close to your car and monitor, even if it’s not an actual parking spot

Nicknamed “Big Chiller Blues”

  • Created by Ann M Adams

  • 10,000 square feet of glass tiles

  • covers 2 walls of the Austin Convention Center parking garage

EAST AUSTIN

YOU’RE MY BUTTER HALF

2000 E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near Alamo Street

For nearly 10 years, East Austin’s "You're My Butter Half" mural has been the backdrop for many Instagram pics. It’s endured several tagging incidents over the years - have you see the latest? - but always perseveres back to its rightful namesake.

The piece was created by John Rockwell years ago for the United Way of Greater Austin, which still receives proceeds from sales of "Butter Half" merch.

To access this mural, you need to park on the street of Martin Luther King Jr. or be quick and using the parking lot behind this building.

There’s picnic benches around the mural, which make it a little challenging to stand up against the mural and capture the full scene. We enjoyed our pictures sitting on the picnic table much more. The sun also hits this spot early! Get here before 8a to try and beat it.

If you only have time for a few murals, this is a must-visit. There’s also an instagram-worthy coffee shop nearby Revival and the best breakfast shop Bird Bird Biscuit!

REVIVAL COFFEE SHOP

1405 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78702

Revival Coffee is owned by Gabriela Bucio of the Gabriela’s Group, a locally owned-and-operated restaurant group with sister concepts including Gabriela’s and Taquero Mucho. She took over this space from a previous coffee shop owner and turned it into a Instagram-worthy space.

Leading heavy with pink, Revival features cute wall murals out front, a covered strawberry themed patio and full on pink decor inside.

Grab a coffee and hang out for a bit. You’ll want to capture every inch of this cute coffee shop!

Cute Nail Studio

1211 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78702

Not a wall, but quite possibly the cutest lil rainbow house you ever did see. Cute Nail Studio delivers on all the unicorn vibes from the outside.

This was an unplanned spot, but as soon as we drove on our way to Bird Bird Biscuit (a must eat, btw!) we knew we had to pull in!

The entire exterior is painted like a pastel rainbow, the railing and walkway going up to entrance is covered in purple, and even their porch furniture matches the aesthetic.

We visited before the salon opened and there’s a parking lot right out front.

North University

I love queso

2606 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

If you’re a queso fan like me, this mural is a no brainer!

You can find this I Love Queso mural on the side of Kerbey Lane Cafe at their University location. There’s a large, but tight parking lot on the side of the restaurant that wraps around the back. To really get into the spirit, pop inside and grab some chips and queso to go. It’s not our fav queso, but a good one to try and a great prop!

FYI, When we visited the heart was tagged with a curse word in Spanish that we’ve healed out of this photo.

North Loop

Pink Poodle Mural

6507 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78757

Giving off a total 60s vibe, this pink wall featuring a giant white poodle is one for any dog lover to visit. Break out the poodle skirt and strike a pose!

There’s a slight overhang covering this mural, so you can be a bit shaded from the sun and there’s a parking lot right in front of it.

Blue and white diagonal stripes

1500 W. North Loop Blvd, Austin, TX 78756

This blue and white diagonal striped wall is very tall and the design wraps around the building. You’ll find these fun stripes on the north and west sides of the building.

There’s a parking lot wrapped around the building and you can visit later in the morning, shoot on the side of the building and still be shaded from the sun. We visited around 9:30 a.m.

Cornflower blue graphic tile wall

6555 Burnet Rd #200, Austin, TX 78757

This pretty tiled wall is along the front of Lick Ice Creams. There’s plenty of room to work with for photos across the store front and the tiles span all the way to the top of the building.

There’s a parking lot out front and it’s a quiet shopping center if you visit before 9:30 a.m.
